Death with dignity

Death with Dignity is a nonprofit group that advocates for the rights of terminally ill patients, palliative care, and end-of-life options across the United States.

This is a brief collection of some of the social media and other design work I have put together during my time here.

Make it stand out

This is a sample of some of the social media I develop. I start with a basic prompt, in this case to an actionable series for National Healthcare Decisions Day, and experiment with new ways of using our bold and adaptable branding to deliver clear-cut and well-researched information in a compelling format.

With such a contentious and often-misunderstood topic at the heart of our movement, we often use data visualizations and other infographics to inform the public about our issue and clarify some of the most common misconceptions.

It’s important to focus on only the most clarifying and accurate data, and analyze how to best present it to a broad audience of varying opinions.

encouraging our supporters

I was also part of Death with Dignity’s first digital rollout of their Annual Report. I had a great time celebrating our successes and hyping up our momentum in the days and weeks leading up to its release.

Being able to show off the numbers side of our work isn’t just important for our financial side. It’s essential that our supporters know how much their advocacy was helped us move forward throughout the year. As our graphic designer, it was my job to make sure that this data was boiled down to comprehensible and inspiring tidbits to proclaim to the public.

Celebrating our successes

But of course, our social media feed can’t always be about calls to action- asking for supporters to write, to call, or support our cause. It’s important to celebrate, too— and not only when a bill finally gets passed.

We make a point to celebrate doctors, thank bill sponsors, discuss stories, celebrate legislative anniversaries, and more. Balancing success with progress is essential to keeping our supporters feeling like we’re still moving forward, even when a bill isn’t passing in their state.

finding storytellers

At Death with Dignity, we are always looking for new storytellers to help us craft engaging narratives and show people why medical aid in dying is so important. I created these ads to help us target storytellers from specific districts in New York, in order to help our state-wide legislative push.

We received overwhelming feedback, and successfully accumulated a bank of good stories and Reels to encourage our supporters in New York to write their legislators and encourage senators and other officials to consider the new law.
